DESCRIPTION – Barcelona: Forum – Contemporary Architecture 22@

With the Plan 22@, approved by the City council in 2000, began the transformation of the Poblenou, converting this industrial neighbourhood in an innovative district where the contemporary architecture mixes with the industrial Heritage.

22@ Barcelona project transforms two hundred hectares of industrial land of Poblenou into an innovative district offering modern spaces for the strategic concentration of intensive knowledge-based activities. This initiative is also a project of urban refurbishment and a new model of city. The mix between the conservation of the industrial heritage with innovative buildings of contemporary architects will allow you to have the best vision of the Barcelona of the 21st century.

In 2004, the Universal Forum of Cultures was organized at Barcelona. The seaside area was developed to welcome the event. It covered 30 hectares between the Barcelona Olympic port and Sant Adrià de Besòs, and complete the urban regeneration programme started for the 1992 Olympic Games.
