DESCRIPTION – Barcelona: Contemporary Architecture and Sustainability
The current architectural model being in crisis, both financially and conceptually, the City Hall of Barcelona approved, in 2000, a new plan to transform the old industrial area of Poblenou into a center of new activity, converting the neighborhood into the experimental district of the 22@.
A new model of a compact city, where the most innovative companies coexist with research and technology centers, residential houses, facilities and green areas. Integrated with the old industrial heritage, modern living energy networks, telecommunications, central air conditioning and selective waste collection. The design of these new networks opt for energy efficiency and the responsible management of natural resources.
Our itinerary through will start by visiting MediaTic (Cloud-9), the emblematic headquarters of the digital world. Then we will go to Disseny Hub building, Encants Market, Agbar Tower, Can Framis, etc. After that, we will visit Ecourban (McDonough) with bioclimatic design and renewable energy criteria. To end these visits we will go to Banc de Sang i Teixits (SaAS Sabaté), a maximum energy efficiency building.
To end our tour we will go over to the Forum and there we will be able to see the Forum’s Photovoltaic Pergola and water purifying plant and we will also have some explanations about districlima, urban distribution network of heat and cold for use in heating, mobility networks and pneumatic waste collection.
