DESCRIPTION – Singapore: Urban Architecture
As a land-scarce country, Singapore is in the avant-garde of the mixed-use developments. The country found in this philosophy the solution to the concerns of creating residential properties while mixing urban liability.
In this architectural walking tour we will explore some of the most iconic mixed-use projects with nature and urban relation as an essential part of the building without losing sight of design and the most advanced technology.
Starting at Rochor district and finishing in Marina South area; in our visit we are going to explore the most iconic contemporary buildings such as: LASALLE College of Arts, DUO Residences, The South Beach, Supreme Court, Marina Bay Sands…and we will see how the Architects were able to integrate this new contemporary projects in a urban environment with the pre-existing colonial and Art-deco constructions. Then we will finish with a walk along the Bay zone where we can find lots of awesome architecture such as: the ArtScience Museum, the Helix Bridge, the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, the Singapore Flyer…
During the tour we will visit different projects designed by Norman Foster, Ole Scheeren or Moshe Safdie and we will understand the different solutions they applied to integrate their mixed-use developments in the complex Singaporean urban grid and how they became an essential part of the city contributing with smart solutions to some of the pre-existing problems.
