DESCRIPTION – Singapore: Landscape architecture

When Singapore became independent in 1965, the vision was to create a true garden city and to achieve that they actually practiced biophilia without knowing the word existed. Biophilic design is a way to connect natural environment with buildings and constructions. The architecture in Singapore has lots of examples of this movement.

In this architectural tour we will explore the Downtown Core and the Marina South areas and discover some buildings that focus on incorporating nature into their architecture.

To start we will visit two hotels designed by the same architects, WOHA; the PARKROYAL Hotel on Pickering considered an hotel-in-a-garden and the Oasia Hotel Downtown that doubled the green-growing potential of its site. Our next stop will be at the Green Heart Marina One a project by the architects Ingenhoven Architects. This three-dimensional apartment complex and green oasis reflects the diversity of tropical flora.

To end our visit we will head to the Marina South to see the imposing Marina Bay Sands (Safdie Architects), a luxury integrated resort. Next to it we find the Gardens by the Bay by architects Grant Associates, one of the largest parks in the world with some of the most impressive constructions.

Near these constructions there’s also lots of awesome architecture like the ArtScience Museum, the Helix Bridge, the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, the Singapore Flyer…that convert Singapore in one of the cities with the most impressive buildings in the world.
