PARIS – COVERED PASSAGES

DESCRIPTION – Paris: Covered passages

This architecture tour in Paris will take us away from the car circulation and protected from the sun and rain; this walk through covered passages takes us back to the 19th Century, when Paris was world capital and capital of the entertainment world.

Commercial needs motivated the construction of the covered passages: their purpose was to both link business places and provide a peaceful environment for shopping and window shopping.

This historical and architectural walk will lead us to forgotten, dusty, old-fashioned passages off Grands Boulevards, in which old Paris perfumes linger in the air, to the flamboyant galleries around Palais Royal, which are the place to be for fashion addicts and designers in Paris today.

Some of the covered passages we’ll walk through are: Galerie Vero Dodat, Galerie Vivienne, Galerie Colbert, Passage des Deux Pavillons, Passage du Choiseul, Passage des Panoramas, Passage Jouffroy, Passage Verdeau, Passage des Princes, etc.
