DESCRIPTION – Los Angeles: Downtown

In Los Angeles you will find many architectural styles, from historic buildings to some milestones of contemporary architecture. One of the most important spots, ideal for a walking tour in a city where the car is omnipresent, is the financial center or Downtown. In this area are we can see the main institutions of art and music, the sports hall (Staples Center), several skyscrapers and multinational corporations.

The guided tour by our architect in the “Downtown” will include everything from historic buildings such as hotels, offices or apartment blocks, to interesting malls with different architectural styles.

We will see Victorian houses in the “Angelino Heights”, the first suburb of the city, or government buildings like the City Council. We will walk through the Little Tokyo, Chinatown and the Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry. Still under construction, our architect will explain “Los Angeles Grand Avenue Project”, a project to convert the area to the style of the Champs Elysees in Paris, with four towers designed by Frank Gehry.

We will not forget the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (1996-2002) by Rafael Moneo, the only Spanish architect that won a Pritzker Prize. We will also visit the Museum of Contemporary Art by Arata Isozaki (MOCA) that has a postmodern style, and was the first building of the architect in the US.
