DESCRIPTION – Los Angeles: Silver Lake

Silver Lake is located in the northwest of Los Angeles and it is a neighborhood with the motliest blend between new “hipster” trends (Forbes magazine named it in 2012 as the world’s most modern neighborhood in the world, even more than the Williamsburg in New York) and elegant houses in the hills. Sunset Boulevard is full of cafes, clubs, vintage stores and design. The Silver Lake Reservoir and the Ivanhoe Reservoir create a beautiful natural area and the steep stairs lead to the residential streets.

The neighborhood is not only fashionable, but has many of the houses of the great architect Richard Neutra. We will also approach the nearby neighborhood “Los Feliz” (also part of our tour of Frank Lloyd Wright) where other Neutra houses are placed.

Discover in our guided tour by an architect the colony of Neutra houses, right next to the lake reserve, home of the world’s largest concentration of houses by the architect. The tour includes Richard Neutra home, where he lived for four decades, the Lovell Health House. We will also visit his study (Neutra Office) where he worked from the fifties until his death in 1970.

On the way, we will also discover the Schindler House or Schindler-Chace House (nowadays known as the MAK Center for Art and Architecture), one of the most important works of the Viennese architect Rudolf Schindler, and his own home and studio until his death in 1953.
