DESCRIPTION – Lisbon: Contemporary Architecture
The contemporary and modern architecture of Lisbon focuses on the Expo’98 (which starred) and from which began a remodeling of the city. Architects like Santiago Calatrava and Álvaro Siza Vieira devised large constructions for the Expo’98, such as Oriente Station and Portugal Pavilion. Still, other architects and their constructions like Aires Mateus (with Mar do Oriente) and João Pedro Falcão De Campos (with Bar à Margem) among others, have contributed to this remodeling of the city.
In this guided tour by an architect we will discover the contemporary architecture of Lisbon in Parque das Nações. We will transfer to the Expo ‘98 area where we will visit the exhibition grounds of the Expo’98 with Portugal Pavilion by Álvaro Siza.
After those visits we will see the Orient Station by Santiago Calatrava and the Vasco de Gama bridge. Then, we will head to the Pavilion of Knowledge by the architect Carrilho da Graça. To end the tour we will visit the extension of the Lisbon Aquarium by Pedro Campos Costas.
