DESCRIPTION – São Paulo: Ibirapuera Park

At the end of the 20s, Ibirapuera was created to be a park inspired by those of Paris, New York and London. As the land was marshy, one city official known as Manequinho Lopes, started on his own initiative planting hundreds of Australian eucalyptus, in order to drain the soil and eliminate excess moisture. Also planted a large number of ornamental and exotic species intended to be afforested the streets and squares of the city. Seedlings were also distributed to the population.

In 1951, the central idea that guided the park would be to unite the urban modernity through a modern architecture with a landscape with a design no less advanced. Thus, the architect Oscar Niemeyer was responsible for the architectural design and Roberto Burle Marx was responsible for landscape design.

The Park implementation period took place amid the period of modern architecture. Modern architecture can be seen as a reflection of the great technical innovations that began to emerge in the late nineteenth century, with the industrial revolution. The iron began to be used in the buildings in a way never seen before.

In this guided tour with a professional architect in São Paulo you will discover the Ibirapuera Park, the most important one and considered the heart of the city.
