DESCRIPTION – Vienna – The Towers of Vienna
Historic towers such as the flak-towers from the Nazi-era shape the cityscape of Vienna as well as the new, architecturally relevant towers by national and international star architects. Very striking is Jean Nouvel’s 75m high luxury hotel “So/Vienna” on the Vienna Danube Canal. Together with Hans Hollein’s “Media Tower” at the opposite side, this tower forms an architectural gateway to Vienna’s second district “Leopoldstadt”.
Further north, on the banks of the Danube and in the immediate vicinity of the Vienna International Center (UNO City), the ultra-modern Donau City was created, which shapes the skyline of the new Vienna. We find towers by Dominique Perrault (DC Tower), Sepp Frank (Tech Gate Vienna), Heinz Neumann (ARES Tower), Hans Hollein (Saturn Tower) and Harry Seidler (residential tower).
The itinerary will take us from Hotel So/Vienna with the underground U1 to the new buildings in the Donau City.
