DESCRIPTION – Vienna – The new city around “Hauptbahnhof”
Where the “Südbahnhof” (south train station) used to be located, is now the new central station “Hauptbahnhof”, and in its immediate vicinity a new urban quarter – the “Sonnwendviertel” – has been created: the ERSTE Campus planned by Henke Schreieck is located on the corner of Gürtel/ Arsenalstraße, a huge, completely new type of office complex. This project is exemplary not only in terms of architecture but also in terms of urban planning. Adjacent to it are office buildings by Renzo Piano, Jabornegg-Palffy and Heinz Neumann. The so called “Sonnwendviertel”, south of the railway line, is a residential area (some of the buildings are assembly projects with high cultural and political standards) for more than 13.000 people, an internationally acclaimed educational campus from PPAG, a park and a few shops.
Discover this guided visit with one of our arhcitects in Vienna. The itinerary goes through the main train station, Erste Bank Campus, 21er Haus, and the new city district “Sonnwendviertel”.
