Project Description

RIGA

The city of the fairy tale

The capital and largest city of Latvia lies at the mouth of the river Daugava, which isolates the old town with the Pilsetas Kanals, formed by its medieval architecture and restored houses in the Dutch Renaissance style, modernist buildings and emblematic monuments that remember their prosperous commercial past.

Riga was chosen as the European Capital of Culture in 2014 and has very strong representations of design, urbanism and contemporary architecture, such as the Riga 2014 Pavilion, architect Mailitis AIIM, the DnB NORD office building at Audrius Ambrasas Architects and the renovation of Spikeri Square and the Daugava shoreline of Arplan and A plus Architects. Still the biggest architectural attraction of the city is the Jugendstil heritage (German art nouveau architecture).
