Montpellier is a flourishing region, often voted one of the best places for French people to live, and its population is growing every year. To cope with the influx, cities are expanding with extraordinary architectural experiments.
The city has been growing for some time. From Port Marianne to the Sud-de-France high-speed train station, through the Odysseum and Cambacérès districts, Montpellier has chosen contemporary architecture to inspire its dynamism for more than 50 years. Launched in 1975 in his shopping center Polygon near Place de la Comedie, the project was driven by the overwhelming ambitions of Georges Flèche, who served as the city’s famous mayor for 27 years (from 1977 to his 2004). The engine of this strategy is still working today and has been adopted by all mayors.
