Project Description
MANCHESTER
Industrial heritage and architecture of the new millennium
Manchester is a product of the Industrial Revolution known worldwide as the first truly industrial city. The landscape of the city is full of warehouses, viaducts, old factories and canals all remnants of its glorious factory past. The small amount of Georgian or medieval architecture is remarkable and the buildings of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries of Neogothic, Neoclassical, Modernist and many others architecture stand out.
As if this weren’t enough, after the post-war deindustrialization in 1996 began a process of regeneration and recovery of its architectural and industrial heritage that has greatly updated the city. Since the turn of the century there have been ultramodern buildings in the city such as Urbis, the City of Manchester Stadium, Beetham Tower, Will Alsop’s Chips building, Manchester Civil Justice Center, Alan Turing Building, No. 1 Deansgate or One Angel Square, among others.
