TOURS IN LIMA
Colonial and contemporary architecture on the shores of the Pacific
Lima offers much more than architecture from the colonial era. Next to the colonial buildings like the Monastery of San Francisco, the Cathedral or the Palace of Torre Tagle we find buildings after the independence of Peru neoclassical and modernist, many of them influenced by French architectural styles. The historic center of the city was declared World Heritage by UNESCO. There are also examples of brutalist architecture from the mid-20th century such as the Museum of the Nation and the Ministry of Defense.
Recently several skyscrapers have been developed in Lima’s business and financial district and they now dominate the skyline of the city. There are also interesting contemporary architecture creations such as the UTEC campus of Grafton Architects winning an international architectural award. Lima will delight lovers of Spanish colonial architecture with its beautiful historic center and also those interested in modern architecture that has emerged in the capital during the last years.
