RIO DE JANEIRO – MODERNISM

Rio de Janeiro is the main touristic dest ination in the Southern Hemisphere and the second most populated city in Brazil, as well as one of the main economic and cultural centers in the county. It is internationally known for its unmissible like Pão de Açúcar, the statue of Christ Redeemer, the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana and its famous Carnival.

The first modern project with national repercussions was the building of the Ministry of Education and Health (currently Moreira Salles Institute), who’s project was undertaken in 1936. The building was designed according to the fundamentals Modernist and became a reference for Brazilian architecture, representing a rupture with the architectural shapes decorated with motifs and symbolic historicism that were used at the time.
