DESCRIPTION – Porto: Historical Center

Located next to the mouth of the river Duero in the north of Portugal, Porto is the second largest city in the country. Known for the wine of the same name, it houses several wineries on the banks of the Douro River. It is a dynamic city and offers a vibrant nightlife thanks to the countless students who live there. Porto has an extensive historical heritage and in 1996, its historic center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Our walking tour will start at the Aliados Avenue, from there we will go to the Rivoli Theater and the Old Cinema Batalha, rebuilt by the architect Artur Andrade in an Art-Deco style in 1947. It closed in 2003 but re-opened in 2006 as a cultural and concert venue. We will also visit the Centro Português de Fotografia, located in a former prison. To end the tour, we will walk along the Douro River and the Rua da Reboleira to see the rehabilitation of the Ribeira Neighborhood. With a short walk crossing the Douro we will reach the Gaia Cable Car where you can visit the wine cellars of the area (this last part is optional).
