Project Description
MARSEILLE – FROM ARENC TO MUCEM
Languages available: EN ES FR
Customizable tour: Yes
Recommended group size per guide: 25
Duration: 4 hours
DESCRIPTION – Marseille: From Arenc to MuCEM
One of the main objectives of the Euromediterranée project is to open the city of Marseille to the sea, transforming the port in walking areas, recreation zones and cultural attractions for all citizens.
Along the coast, the development of spaces and roads, achieved after the burial of the highway and the creation of the Boulevard du Littoral, helped pacifying the traffic and created a quality public space between the city and the harbor.
We will start our tour at the Quai de l’Arenc to see CMA CGM Tower by Zaha Hadid and the renovation of the building Le Silo by E. Castaldi and Roland Charter to continue along the Boulevard Dunkirk, with projects by Jean-Paul Viguier and the new FRAC by Kengo Kuma, to the Joliette square.
We will continue this visit in the area where the Cité de la Mediterranée is still being built, an ambitious operation that includes the transformation of the docks walkways, the Maritime Station by Lanoire and Courrian, the esplanade of La Major by Bruno Fortier and Jean-Michel Savignat, and the future Euromed complex by Massimiliano Fuksas.
We will end our tour at the Esplanade J4 with the MuCEM (Museum of the civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean) by Rudy Ricciotti and Roland Charter and the spectacular Villa Méditerranée building by Boeri Studio.
