DESCRIPTION – Lyon: La Presqu’ȋle
In this guided tour by an architect you will discover all the area from Lyon called “La Presqu’île” (which means peninsula in french).
The Lyon from the XX and XXI century is the centrepiece of this itinerary. We will begin in the Lyon Stadium, designed by HOK Sport in 2008, to continue to the Halle Tony Garnier. This last building was designed by Garnier in 1928 as a big market and the slaughterhouse of the city, and renovated in 2000 by Atelier of Rize.
Across the river Rhone we will push out into the presqu’île (almost island), a land between the Rhône and the Saone rivers, which for years hosted industrial and port activities, and it is currently undergoing a process of urban renewal that involves various prestigious architects.
We will see the Museum des Confluences by Coop Himmelblau, The Monolithe by MVRDV architects, the Hotel de Region Rhone Alps by Atelier Christian de Portzamparc, the Orange Cube by Jakob + Macfarlane and the building under construction in Quai Rambaud by OdileDecq and Benoît Cornette.
