DESCRIPTION – Chicago: Illinois Institute of Technology & University

Chicago, known for its magnificent architecture and its location on the shores of Lake Michigan, is also famous for its Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), a university located in the city center, with programs in engineering and architecture among others. The University of Illinois at Chicago is the largest university in the Chicago area, with over 25,000 students and nearly 100 fields of study. We will visit the most important educational buildings.

The tour guided by one of our architects will begin with a tour of the University of Chicago. We will visit the exterior of the campus, which includes the following buildings: Booth School of Business by Rafael Viñoly (just facing the famous Robie House by Frank Lloyd Wright), Law School Library by Eero Saarinen, the Regenstein Library by SOM, and Joe and Rika Mansueto Library by Murphy and Jahn, among others.

We will travel with the public transport to arrive at the Illinois Institute of Technology, better known as IIT. We will visit the Campus, designed by Mies van der Rohe, including Herman Hall by SOM and, of course, the SRCrown Hall (school of architecture) and the Library by Mies van der Rohe, among others. The most concentration of buildings by this German teacher is on this campus, with twenty of his works.

We will not forget the McCormick Tribune Campus Center by Rem Koolhaas or the St. Village by Helmut Jahn, the first building constructed on the Main Campus in thirty years.
