DESCRIPTION – Glasgow: Mackintosh Masterpieces

In Glasgow, among the Victorian buildings, contemporary buildings and medieval ruins, we find the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Mackintosh, together with the rest of the group known as The Four and the collaboration of his wife, graphic artist and decorator Margaret MacDonald, turned the city into one of the most important Art Nouveau centers in Europe.

On our tour, you can visit some of their works accompanied by our architect. We begin the tour at the nearby churches of Church Hall and Queen´s Cross. As we walk through the city, we can see the Royal Highland Fusiliers Museum and the Glasgow School of Art buildings and, close by, Mackintosh’s house itself. Shortly after is the perfect time to take a rest at the Willow Tea Rooms, followed by the Martyrs’ Public School. On another short walk, we can find 2 buildings side by side: the old headquarters of the Daily Record and The Light House, former headquarters of the Glasgow Herald and current headquarters of the Scottish center of architecture, design, and urbanism.

As we cross the river by foot or by transport (public or private) we will arrive at the Scotland Street School Museum and the “House for an art lover”, built almost 100 years after the Town Hall based on Mackintosh’s design. Hills House in Helensburgh can be added to the itinerary if you travel with private transport, the same goes for other requests.

Discover Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the city’s great architect accompanied by our guide and enjoy a delightful day.
