DESCRIPTION – Lyon: Firminy Vert
Firminy complex is the largest project of Le Corbusier in Europe. At this location, the architect applies the principles of Modernity in the context of a large urban area.
The Firminy project consists of a set of facilities around the social housing building of Firminy-Vert, and the last of the five Unites d’Habitatión designed by the architect. For the first time Le Corbusier performs a set of high quality public cultural and sportive facilities, in a villeverte, following the principles of the Athens Charter emerged from the International Congress of Modern Architecture (1933).
Our itinerary begins in Lyon, to go towards Firminy, where, during a city tour, we will see, among others, the House of Culture and Youth (1955-1969), the stadium (1955-1968), the Saint Pierre Church of Firminy-Vert (1960-1965-1968-2006), some projects in collaboration with Iannis Xenakis, André José Ourebrie and Wogenscky. From this architect we will also visit The Pool.
