DESCRIPTION – Amsterdam: IJburg
IJburg is Amsterdam’s newest urbanization and construction district and is built on artificial islands. In other words, “creation of land” to gain land to the sea. It is located in the eastern part of the city, but well connected to the center.
In the middle of the nineties, the Amsterdam government decided to build a new district based on the futuristic project that years before the architects Van Den Broek and Bakema designed. Nowadays, it is an incomplete project of which only half is finished, which is an interesting example of study on the new ways of life.
IJburg will allow the visitor to work alongside our architect in a wide range of housing types or offices. Among them, one can understand the operation of barges or know housing projects of Maccreanor Lavington or VMX, or Rieteiland among others.
The district consists of three artificial islands, Steigereiland, Haveneiland and Rieteilanden, located on Lake IJmeer.
The islands are interconnected by bridges. The inner grid of the urbanization helps to group the houses in an orderly way, but in the blocks the variety is maximum.
An interesting area with a lot to discover. Enjoy this guided visit in Amsterdam where you will be able to visit the contemporary IJburg neighborhood.
