One of the most emblematic festivals, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival or better known as Coachella Festival, took place for the twentieth time in Indio, California, United States, the two previous weekends this April.
The more than 100.000 people who attended to the festival, were participants of the work of artists, designers and architects. About half a dozen large-scale art installations were built by the designers, Francis Kéré, Office Kovacs and NEWSUBSTANCE, among others.
The goal of these great constructions, in addition to promoting the art and making known to big designers and artists, in the festival is established as cultural reference points, to help the public that comes to be placed, map and navigate. In this way, it is easier to find places of food, of relaxing or even to get away from the weather of the Coachella Valley. Not only that, but it attracts a large number of people, lovers of art, who only visit the festival for its installations.
Both those who attended, as the most active in Social Networks, have been able to appreciate the big installation of the artistic collective Poetic Kinetics, the famous astronaut of 21 meters high and 14 meters crouched, the Lightweaver, which appeared in 2014 at the festival, but this time bruised, scarred and beaten after “his great adventure” as Patrick Shearn, the founder said.
Among other constructions, we find some like Francis Kéré, who created 12 towers of 18 meters high, with the shape of baobab trees paying homage to his land, providing shade and creating a meeting center.
NEWSUBSTANCE brought back the wonderful and colored seven floors building of the Coachella 2018, which allows attendees to access a 360 degree viewing platform, with views of the stunning desert.
And finally, highlight the paintings and murals of Sofia Enríquez, promoting feminism and equality in a very insightful message.
