Mies van der Rohe European Architecture Awards 20222022-04-28T10:38:13+02:00

Congratulations to the winners of the Mies van der Rohe Award for Architecture and Emerging Architecture 2022!

On 12 May 2022, the EUmies Awards were presented at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.

Five works located in Spain, together with another one in London by the Spanish studio Selgas Cano, are part of the forty projects selected for the biennial European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2022.

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award is biennial in nature and its main purpose is to recognise and reward the quality of architectural production in Europe.

Town House – Kingston University

This time the Architecture Award goes to Grafton Architects, Dublin, for the Town House – Kingston University, London. For its remarkable environmental quality creating an excellent atmosphere for studying, meeting, dancing and being together.

It is the first time that a university building has won an architectural award, and demonstrates the potential of public educational projects highlighting the quality of people’s lives through education and conviviality, offering the same educational possibilities for all.

Vivienda cooperativa – La Borda de Lacol

The winner of Emerging Architecture is the cooperative housing La Borda de Lacol in Barcelona.

This cooperative project is transgressive in its context, because although housing production is dominated by macroeconomic interests, this model is based on co-ownership, co-management of resources and shared capacities.

The model goes beyond the specific cooperative housing project. This study is managed as a cooperative in which fourteen professionals, from different disciplines, offer an active tool to promote political and urban change from within the system, i.e. an example of action based on social, ecological and economic sustainability.

The “EUmies Awards 2022” exhibition will embark on a European tour. The opening will take place in Cologne on 10 June with Baukultur Nordrhein-Westfalen. In addition to a venue in BOZAR, Brussels, from 21 July, and another venue at the Architekturzentrum Wien in Vienna in October.
