Project Description

RIO DE JANEIRO

Exuberance and modernity

Dicover our tours in Rio de Janeiro, the main touristic destination in the Southern Hemisphere and the second most populated city in Brazil, as well as one of the main economic and cultural centers in the county. It is internationally known for icons like Pan de Azúcar, the statue of Christ Redeemer, the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana and the festival of Carnival. Its neighborhoods maintain the Rio de Janiero style of live, marked by the presence of the sea, the nearby mountain, the ever-present nature, which has produced artistic movements like bossa nova, among others.

In terms of urban design and architecture, the work of Brazilian urban and landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx stands out. His most famous work is probably the undulating design of the streets of Atlantic Avenue, which is now a logo of the city. We cannot forget the work of the master arhcitect Oscar Niemeyer who had his studio in Rio.

A  city in constant transformation, especially before the Olympic Games, which took place in August of 2016 in the city of Rio. The candidacy was based on four concepts: technical excellence, experience, transformation and support in the Olympic and Paralympic movement. It was proposed to hold almost all of the event within the urban area, concentrating on four zones: Maracaná, Barra de Tijuca, Deodoro and Copacabana. The only exception were the soccer events, which took place in São Paulo, Salvador de Bahía, Belo Horizonte and the capital Brasilia. All these cities were headquarters for the World Soccer Cup in 2014, which was in some kind of way the main test for Brazilian infrastructure, not only for sports but also logistics, the hotel industry, security and transport.

The sector of Barra de Tijuca was the headquarters not only for different sporting events, but also the Olympic Village, and the press and broadcasting centres. In this area, you will find diverse grounds created for the Pan-American Games in 2007 as part of the City of Sports Complex, such as María Lenk Aquatic. Some sports will occupy emblematic places in Rio. The volleyball beach was located on the beaches of Copacabana, one of the origins of this sport; the Sambadrome hosted the marathon and speed walking events.

In Rio de Janeiro we offer guided tours by architects oriented to design, urban planning and architecture. All our guides are professional architects, who prepare tailor-made architectural itineraries.
