It is this conflict that defined the city until the present time. Even the architecture is able to get rid of this commitment and be "deformed" in the search for a possible harmonious relationship with the waves, winds, the mountains belonging to the urban fabric.
La Concha Bay, bordered by its characteristic railing, is the symbol of San Sebastian. In the middle of the bay is the pearl of the shell, which is the island of Santa Clara.
Next to the beach Ondarreta, and continuing until the final walk along the bay, one reaches the Peine del Viento, a sculpture by Eduardo Chillida and become another of the symbols of the city. Moving to the west by the Paseo de La Concha is the singular of Miramar Palace, built in English style by Spanish Royal Family in 1893 and sold to the City in the seventies.
The gardens of the palace open to the public, offering spectacular views of the Bay, like the Park of Monte Igueldo small amusement park in the early twentieth century since they are some splendid views of the bay. From the Peine del Viento MoNP up, leaving the land under the sea Ulía mountain on the eastern end of town, crossing the Bay of La Concha, the small port, the Paseo Nuevo, the mouth of the river and ride the Zurriola the beach, you can go through a promenade of about 7 kilometers long without crossing a single traffic light.
Walks through the center of the city, the area known as the belle époque Romantic whose main streets are completely peatonalizadas and Urumea on the river, are another of the strengths of tourism in San Sebastian.
Noteworthy are the buildings of the Diputación Foral de Guipúzcoa (inspired by the building of the Paris Opera), the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and the buildings of the Post and the Centro Cultural Koldo Mitxelena, located on the square, or the City Hall (formerly Casino).
In the Old noteworthy are the Museum of San Telmo, the Santa Maria Church and the parish of San Vicente. Alongside the river are the Teatro Victoria Eugenia and the Hotel Maria Cristina, which constitute one of the most monumental attractions of the city. Crossing the river by the bridge of Maria Cristina, the most flamboyant of the bridges donostiarras are the North Station and the purely French style villas located on the edge of a river.
